DAYSPA Magazine’s Decemeber Issue Names Chellá’s Balancing Clay Mask “Editor’s Choice”

Filed Under Chella Press Releases | Leave a Comment |

It’s just the beginning of Award Season and already Chellá has been chosen to walk the red carpet of fabulous skincare! Dayspa Magazine Editor Teresa Hale has given Chellá’s Balancing Clay Mask her 2007 Editor’s Choice Award. Five editors of Dayspa Magazine tested a wide variety of skincare products and chose the very best to be included in their 2007 Editor’s Choice Awards.

Profiled in the December issue, Teresa wrote:

“I’m a fan of purifying masks that suck toxins out of my clogged pores. But I have to be careful of detoxifying ingredients, which can leave my face as dry as a desert. “Balancing” made this mask a seemingly safe choice for my erratic skin. Hectorite clay and copper drew out the toxins, while botanicals like algae and aloe vera calmed irritation.  After rinsing, my skin was squeaky clean and nourished, not parched. The pores looked smaller and my skin tone more even.  Tip: it also works well as a spot treatment on blemishes.”

Chellá is so proud to receive this award for its Balancing Clay Mask and we invite you to experience the detoxifying magic of this amazing clay mask and get ready for your close-up!

Chellá Professional Skin Care embodies the art of formulation and the science of skin care discovery. These precepts form the groundwork of Chellá’s Anti-Aging System. When founder Chris Kolodziejski began his skin care research, he quickly assessed that there were indisputable scientific advancements that must be included in Chellá’s formulations. He also learned about the botanicals that have been used cross-culturally which were proven to enhance the natural beauty of skin since the beginning of time. He has also studied antioxidants and vitamins and the verifiable effects they have in a skin care regimen. Undaunted by the sheer volume of his research, Kolodziejski made the choice of a practical man. Chellá would have it all. He hired a top formulator and together, they found the chemists and the lab that would put it all together. They combined the most significant, non-prescription scientific breakthroughs in skin function known as Peptides, with the finest organic botanicals, along with rejuvenating antioxidants and restorative vitamins. And thus, Chellá’s Chell-x Complex was born. The clinically proven statistics are impressive.

The Effects of a Cup of ‘Joe’ and a Jog on Skin Cancer

Filed Under Skin Care Articles, Skin Care Tips | Leave a Comment |

A new study just released from the scientists at State University of New Jersey announced that coffee in combination with exercise can reduce your risk of certain skin cancers. Although on their own, coffee and exercise have been shown to have a minimal effect on reducing skin cancer, together they appear to create a “synergy” which, when tested on mice, seems to increase the body’s ability to fight the occurrence of cell damage leading to skin cancer.

The results of experiments done on lab mice using UVB ultraviolet light were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal and showed the coffee-exercise combination appeared to kill off more pre-cancerous skin cells.

Four groups of mice were tested: One group drank the human equivalent of one or two cups of coffee a day. Another group exercised on a running wheel, while a third group drank caffeinated water and exercised. A fourth “control” group did not run and was not given any caffeine.

Compared with the control group, mice exposed to caffeine, but not able to exercise, showed a 95% increase in apoptosis which is the process by which damaged cells “commit suicide” to avoid cancer. A 120% increase in apoptosis was seen in the mice which exercised but were not given caffeine. The group of mice which combined both exercise and caffeine produced an almost four-fold increase in apoptosis.

Dr Allan Conney, one of the report’s authors, said, “If apoptosis takes place in a sun-damaged cell, its progress toward cancer will be aborted.”

While optimistic about the results of the study, Dr Alison Ross, of Cancer Research UK, said, “This study was carried out in mice so there will need to be more research in this area to see if there is a similar effect in humans. Drinking a cup of coffee before going out jogging is definitely not a substitute for adequate sun protection.”

Chella has created two very special anti-aging Morning Cremas with SPF 15 and SPF 25, packed with cancer fighting antioxidants to assist in avoiding skin damage caused by sun exposure. To learn more about these moisturizers, click here.

Understanding the framework for beautiful skin: COLLAGEN

Filed Under Skin Care Articles, Skin Care Tips | 3 Comments |

We all get them … those fine lines and outright wrinkles that seem to show up almost overnight. But how did they sneak up on us like that? In this first of a series of articles on understanding your skin and ways to keep it beautiful, I am going to explain the effect collagen has on creating, and more importantly getting rid of, fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen is a fibrous protein which provides a structural framework for both soft and calcified connective tissues. The word collagen comes from the Greek and means “glue producing”. In layman’s terms, that means collagen acts as a scaffolding for our body’s cells, connecting them together and controlling cell shape.

In the skin, collagen gives the skin its strength and durability and is responsible for the smooth, plump appearance of young, healthy skin. Collagen makes up 75 percent of our skin and so the breakdown of healthy collagen and the decline in collagen production leads to the development of unwanted wrinkles and the appearance of aged skin.

Injections of collagen into the skin are superficial and temporary ways to replace damaged collagen in an effort to “re-plump” the skin and remove wrinkles.

Protecting the healthy collagen you currently have is the best way to maintain a healthy, youthful looking appearance and prevent future collagen degradation. There are two main enemies of healthy collagen -UVA and UVB exposure and free radical damage from UV light, ozone, pollution, and cigarette smoke.

An important step in maintaining healthy skin is supplementing your daily skin care regimen with collagen stimulating peptides. This is an additional way to boost the collagen make-up of your skin cells. Fibroblasts produce other skin structural proteins such as elastin and naturally stimulate the synthesis of collagen when specific combinations of peptide molecules signal your skin cells to bind to receptor sites on the fibroblast membrane creating new and stronger collagen. These peptides can be supplemented topically to help boost collagen production.

Using a daily moisturizer with adequate sunscreen as well as peptides and incorporating antioxidants into your diet as well as topically in your moisturizer will improve your efforts to maintain and recapture healthy collagen and guarantee beautiful skin.

Staring Men’s Skin Care In The Face

Filed Under Skin Care Articles | 1 Comment |

Any woman who has lived with a man, be it a brother, father, husband or lover, can tell you that they have fallen victim more than one to the “stealthy skin care steal” by above mentioned individuals. Levels of product in jars of moisturizer and facial cleansers often seem to magically drop each time these male interlopers leave your bathroom. But in reality, who can blame the guy for filching your facial wash or mooching your moisturizer when there just wasn’t one available for him?

For years, men have suffered from the lack of skin care products and have been unable to address their individual skin’s needs. Cleansing consisted of washing with the bar of soap in the shower and moisturizing was generally done with anything on hand, usually hand lotion or (gasp) Vaseline.

But now times have changed. Read more

Whether you have regular facials with a professional esthetician or dermatologist or if you regard facials as a special treat you rarely afford yourself, you can and should invest in some additional “face time” every month.

While professional facial treatments are often seen as a luxury, many women are adding them to their regular skin care routine especially if they are encountering certain troubles which often accompany aging skin such as adult acne, age spots, rosecea and fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, professional facials are ideal as post treatment care for chemical peels, microdermabrasion and Botox injections. But just how much professional treatment should you be getting? The BOTOX® Alternative - Chella’s Chell-x Complex

Filed Under BOTOX®* Articles, Skin Care Articles | 6 Comments |

When attempting to make the decision as to whether or not to take advantage of the ease with which BOTOX®* is now available, there are quite a few real issues that need to be addressed. Let’s see if you don’t agree that Chellá Professional Skin Care offers a truly viable alternative to BOTOX® injections.

BOTOX® is a strong neurotoxin and when injected into the muscles of the face, it blocks nerve impulses from reaching the muscle, causing the muscle to relax … it’s essentially paralyzing areas of your face! The FDA is concerned that BOTOX® has the potential for being abused. If too much toxin is injected, for example, or if it is injected into the wrong facial area, a person can end up with droopy eyelid muscles (ptosis) that could last for weeks. Other side effects following injection were headaches, respiratory infection, flu symptoms, and nausea. In addition, the long-term effects of small amounts of this poison on the liver, immune system, nervous system, and other areas of the body are still unknown.

BOTOX® is a temporary solution which needs to be repeated to maintain its effectiveness. With the repeated treatment, there is a risk of the body becoming used to the botulinum toxin and generating antibodies to it which prevents future effectiveness. In addition, the repeated treatments may result in a loss of expression and a mask-like appearance as well as a development of new wrinkles. With repeated treatments, thinning of the muscles occurs and in areas where this atrophy has occurred, the skin and underlying tissue are permanently rigid and hardened. This is creates a very obvious contrast to the healthy and pliable surrounding skin.

So what is the alternative?
How about a non-invasive, non-injectable solution that not only reduces the wrinkles in your skin but actually nourishes & protects your skin at the same time! Read more

Better with BOTOX®, a few words on BOTOX® Maintenance

Filed Under BOTOX®* Articles, Skin Care Articles | Leave a Comment |

When it comes to skin care, I am a firm believer that not one product or treatment will be the miracle cure for everyone. I guess you could call me a procedure pragmatist. The real determinant should be the individual’s goals and tolerance for the treatments that will get them to the place they want their face.

While it will be a very long time, if ever, that I under go “the knife”, I have certainly seen cosmetic surgery results that are awe inspiring and more importantly, have made the patient feel better about herself. Cosmetic surgery, in my humble opinion, should do just that … enhance a person’s looks. It won’t change who that person is inside, but may make him or her feel a little more attractive which in turn can truly add to that person’s feeling of self-worth. Read more

The BOTOX® Party … I’ll have a pomegranate martini with my neurotoxin please!

Filed Under BOTOX®* Articles, Skin Care Articles | 2 Comments |

Botox PartyLet’s face it (pun intended) BOTOX®* has become a staple for millions of women and men who want to erase those fine lines and crows feet in a quick and almost painless manner. But just how accessible BOTOX® is has me a little worried.

Recently I was invited to a BOTOX® Party. While I am quite sure that I was the only person in a hundred mile radius who hasn’t tried BOTOX® (I do live in L.A. after all), it turned out that I was not the only gal on the block to have missed the BOTOX® Boat. How could I resist an invitation to a party where I could get tipsy and wrinkle-free at the same time? Nevertheless, I declined the invitation as I had a hard time seeing myself with a pomegranate martini in hand while a Doctor injected my face with a neurotoxin. Read more

Paraben Debate in Cosmetic Use

Filed Under Skin Care Articles | 1 Comment |

Recently, there has been quite a bit of discussion over the safety of the use of parabens as a preservative in cosmetics. Before addressing the augments, let’s look at what parabens are. Our first source for information is the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA defines parabens as “the most widely used preservatives in cosmetic products. The most common parabens used in cosmetic products are methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben. Typically, more than one paraben is used in a product, and they are often used in combination with other types of preservatives to provide preservation against a broad range of microorganisms.” It should be noted, however that the FDA does not have authorization to approve cosmetic ingredients, with the exception of color additives so cosmetic manufacturers may use any ingredient they choose, except for a few ingredients that are prohibited by regulation. The exception to this rule is if the cosmetic ingredient is adulterated. Under the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, adulterated is defined as “if, among other reasons, it bears or contains any poisonous or deleterious substance which may render it injurious under the labeled conditions of use, or under customary or usual conditions of use.” Read more

A Show of Hands, Skin Care for Your Hands

Filed Under Skin Care Tips | 1 Comment |

Wrinkles on your face aren’t the only way nature gives away your age. Your hands can be a more obvious age tattle than you think. Wrinkles, saggy skin and brown spots are all signs that even though the skin on your face looks young and radiant, your hands may be screaming “neglect!”

Sun damage can affect the skin of your hands even more quickly than protected facial skin. While our facial moisturizers should, and most often do, contain the minimum SPF 15 sunscreen, most hand lotions do not. It is essential to apply a lotion with sunblock to your hands if you want to avoid the very same results of sun damage that occurs on your face.

Don’t be afraid to use the same moisturizer you use on your face on your hands when moisturizing your face. Using a mild exfoliating cleanser daily will slough off dead skin cells leaving your hands looking more radiant and feeling smoother and using your weekly lactic acid exfoliator will have the same affect on your hands as it does on your face. Using antioxidant serums and retinol creams can repair much of the damage caused by the sun.

So don’t sit on your hands when it comes to younger looking skin, daily skin care is essential to beautiful skin ~ hands down!
