Better with BOTOX®, a few words on BOTOX® Maintenance

Filed Under BOTOX®* Articles, Skin Care Articles |

When it comes to skin care, I am a firm believer that not one product or treatment will be the miracle cure for everyone. I guess you could call me a procedure pragmatist. The real determinant should be the individual’s goals and tolerance for the treatments that will get them to the place they want their face.

While it will be a very long time, if ever, that I under go “the knife”, I have certainly seen cosmetic surgery results that are awe inspiring and more importantly, have made the patient feel better about herself. Cosmetic surgery, in my humble opinion, should do just that … enhance a person’s looks. It won’t change who that person is inside, but may make him or her feel a little more attractive which in turn can truly add to that person’s feeling of self-worth.

Cosmetic procedures and treatments such as BOTOX®, fillers, peels and the like also enhance the patients’ looks and while a bit more temporary than cosmetic surgery, fulfill the same needs and desires of looking a bit “younger” or “fresher” or even “more rested”. The majority of these procedures, if done under professional circumstances, are safe and highly effective. Millions of dollars are being spent every year by men and women on cosmetic procedures and as more procedures and treatment products are being developed, the trend does not look as if it will be slowing down as the Baby Boomer generation and even subsequent generations literally see the results on their faces.

Yet even after all the procedures are done and the results are in, the issue of day-to-day maintenance of the skin you’re in becomes paramount. No procedure works on its own. Surgery and treatments, while astonishingly altering, need to be accompanied by vigilant maintenance. It won’t take long for skin to appear dry and dull if left uncared for with a consistent moisturizer. Using a peptide based moisturizer will encourage cell turn over and enhance the healing process. Sun damage is a much more dangerous result on tender and healing skin and post- treated skin especially needs to be protected with a minimum SPF 15 at all times. Targeting the under eyes with an additional moisturizer is a sure fire way to speed the healing process. Look for a moisturizer that doubles as anti-inflammatory to assist in the healing process and which will continue the strengthening of the delicate under eye skin tissue. Non-comedogenic products are essential as post-treatment skin pores are very vulnerable to clogging and irritation.

“Gentle” should be the post-operative word as skin tissue need to be pampered for a good deal of time after a surgery or treatment. A gentle cleanser will keep skin healthy and prone to quicker healing as well as looking healthier long term. A gentle toner made with natural ingredients and fortified with vitamins and botanicals will keep the pH balance of post-treated skin balanced which in turn aids in the healing and long-term health of new and repaired skin.

The cosmetic procedures and treatments available today are truly amazing and offer wonderful results at a variety of levels, but basic skin care becomes an even more crucial step in the care and maintenance of your new look.
