Staring Men’s Skin Care In The Face

Filed Under Skin Care Articles |

Any woman who has lived with a man, be it a brother, father, husband or lover, can tell you that they have fallen victim more than one to the “stealthy skin care steal” by above mentioned individuals. Levels of product in jars of moisturizer and facial cleansers often seem to magically drop each time these male interlopers leave your bathroom. But in reality, who can blame the guy for filching your facial wash or mooching your moisturizer when there just wasn’t one available for him?

For years, men have suffered from the lack of skin care products and have been unable to address their individual skin’s needs. Cleansing consisted of washing with the bar of soap in the shower and moisturizing was generally done with anything on hand, usually hand lotion or (gasp) Vaseline.

But now times have changed.

The Men’s Skin Care Industry is growing by leaps and bounds and is fast approaching the level at which women’s skin care is developed and marketed. “By some estimates, the product side of the business is growing twice as fast as the women’s side, albeit off a much lower base,” said John Esposito, co-founder of Truman’s Gentlemen’s Groomers in New York. Worldwide sales of men’s skin care rose from $26.3 billion in 2005 to $29.7 billion in 2006.

Large manufactures like Lancome and smaller name brands are targeting the growing interest men are taking in their personal skin care. “Now, more than ever, men feel that it is important to take care of their skin,” said Oneeka Botu, director of skin-care marketing for Clarins. “Today’s man is more aware of how he looks and wants to look. Also, men have discovered what women have known all along - that you’ve got to take care of your skin if you want to look well-groomed.”

You may even have received an offer for a Men’s Skin Care starter kit in your last Neiman’s bill enticing you to introduce the man in your life to an array of male oriented products (the hope was you would take him by the hand into the store lest he was too timid to go on his own).

Men are now able to tailor a skin care regimen specific to their skin type and individual needs. Gone are the days of limited choices, as the product offerings for Male Skin Care seem to be endless. Just walk into any department store and you will see men casually and boldly browsing the aisles for products previously reserved for she-types. Facial scrubs, shaving formulations, moisturizers, sunscreens and corrective cosmetics abound and are being scooped up faster than it took for the term “metrosexual” to die.

In addition to purchasing skin care products, men are also the fastest growing market segment to be indulging in professional skin care procedures like Botox treatments, microdermabrasion and to the more extreme full face lifts.

But the reality is that while there are some skin issues peculiar to men’s skin specifically, most moisturizers, cleansers and serums on the market will work for both women and men. The secret is using a peptide based moisturizer with sunscreen to block the sun’s damaging and wrinkle causing rays. The peptides will assist the skin in rebuilding the collagen and elastin which in turn, diminish the signs or aging and wrinkling. Both men and women will see their skin glow with the use of an exfoliating cleanser in tandem with a pH balancing toner. The best remedy and treatment bumps, breakouts and ingrown hairs associated with daily shaving for men is a gently exfoliating scrub. Chella’s Micro-Exfoliating scrub is the perfect one-two combo punch. First, the willowbark kills acne causing bacteria and second the micro beads of all natural jojoba wax gently exfoliate the skin and open any clogged pores. The result - beautiful skin ready to receive your daily spf moisturizer without the bumps and breakouts.

So, the next time you notice your jars of treasured Chella Skin Care start to run low way before they should, order up a jar or two for his side of the bathroom sink and don’t forget the cleanser and toner. He’ll love you for it and you’ll love the way his skin will look and feel (not to mention loving being able to keep your Chella all to yourself!).

So, what do you think? We want to know!

As a man who is intersted in taking better care of my skin, I am intrigued by Chella’s product line. What I lack ,however, is the knowledge of what product to use and when. We men are just beginning to take notice of the fact that we can’t just “slap on” any moisturizing product once a day and get the advantages of a proper skin care routine. What is a proper routine for taking care of a man’s skin, and what products (without going overboard) are the proper ones to use at specific times of the day?
